Testing Information

Important Information Before Testing

OraQuick® HIV Self-Test is intended for screening purposes only.

A non-reactive result does not exclude recent HIV exposure during the window period. If you may have had recent exposure, consider repeat testing according to recommended guidelines.

A reactive result must be confirmed with laboratory testing. Do not make medical decisions based solely on a self-test result.

This test detects antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2. It does not detect other sexually transmitted infections.

If you are unsure about your risk or require further clarification, consult a healthcare professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have any questions?

Our team is here to help with any questions about our self-screening kits or your order.

Is OraQuick® HIV Self-Test an antibody test? How does it work?

Yes, OraQuick® HIV Self-Test is an antibody test. It detects antibodies produced by the body’s immune system in response to HIV infection.

When HIV enters the body, the immune system begins producing antibodies. Although these antibodies cannot eliminate the virus, their presence can indicate possible HIV infection. Most HIV screening tests detect antibodies rather than the virus itself.

HIV is not spread through saliva. OraQuick® HIV Self-Test uses oral fluid to detect antibodies to HIV, not the virus itself.

The antibodies present in oral fluid reflect those found in blood. Therefore, the test can identify HIV antibodies using an oral swab without requiring a blood sample.

Oral fluid HIV testing has demonstrated high accuracy in clinical studies. OraQuick® HIV Self-Test has been shown to correctly identify individuals with HIV infection and those without infection at high rates.

As with all screening tests, reactive results must be confirmed with laboratory testing.

The liquid in the test tube is not considered toxic in the small amount provided. However, it is not intended for ingestion.

If accidental ingestion occurs and you are concerned, consult a healthcare professional.

If the liquid comes into contact with your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water immediately.

If the test cannot be completed due to contamination or spillage, use a new test kit.
